Giving History a Future

All our activity here at The Crooked House helps to preserve and protect this ancient place for future generations.

Our next big restoration project is repairing the back walls, which have been badly neglected for the past 100 years…

From the front, The Crooked House is a vision of medieval beauty, but what you don’t see is the rotting back walls, covered in 20th century concrete render, which is trapping in moisture and damaging the building’s historic oak frame. We urgently need to remove the render, repair the beams and protect them with new, traditional lime plaster. By doing this, we’ll take a big step forward in protecting The Crooked House for generations to come.

Restoration 2026

We’re delighted to share that the back walls restoration of The Crooked House will be happening later this year, with work beginning in September 2026! This vital restoration work is being made possible thanks to everyone who books tickets to our house tours and Black tie Dinners, buys from our gift shop and supports us by becoming a Patron of The Crooked House. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who’s supported so far and stay tuned for updates from our restoration journey!
